Classic 80’s Music at a Wedding/Event

Funk Soul Brother

It strikes me that music from the 70’s and 80’s is definitely influencing Dance and Commercial songs of today.  You only have to look at Bruno Mars and his new album 24K magic to realise that the music here is heavily influenced from 80’s soul and funk! The synthesisers used and the production techniques are very reminiscent of this era! Yet everything sounds a lot more crisp and fresh – think classic 80’s funk, but with top of the range, state-of-the-art technological recording equipment.   I must say I definitely do love this album. https://itun.es/gb/ll7pfb

Even with this new era funk and party music – which by the way works great at any event, be it played by a live function band at a wedding or corporate event, there are still some classic 80’s songs that never fail to get the party started at an event. I wonder what artists of today will still be prevalent at such events in 30/40 years time.  Will Bruno still be being played, Beyonce? Maybe people will still be dancing to Stevie Wonder songs and Frank Sinatra. Or will Commercial House artists such as Sigala and Zara Larsson be fashionable to dance to in years to come.  One things for sure there are certain artists and songs that don’t fail to get a corporate event or wedding party started. Here we take a look at a few classics that one can only describe as ‘Timeless’:

Classic Songs from the 80’s

Best of My Love – The Emotions

Perhaps more ‘wedding’ orientated, but still this song never fails with its funky bass and horn lines! Our band regularly play this on the dance floor!

Stevie Wonder – Superstition

It never fails to amaze me how many people love this song – even though they may well have danced to it a million times! Theres something about it, with its funky keyboard intro that just gets people bouncing! Our band played this at a corporate event in Claridge’s in London and it went down a storm!

Aint Nobody – Chaka Kahn:

This classic is a crowd pleaser from the moment that funky bass line comes through at the start of the song.  Its catchy hook and great drum groove make it the perfect song to shake a leg to.

Conclusion

It is true that there a whole host of possible songs to add to this list.  This is a mere start but, how could one include them all in one post? From the likes of 80’s legends Chic, to Earth Wind n Fire, To Cool and the Gang.  There are just too many legends to name in such a discussion.  The fantastic musicianship and groove behind these bands mean that rightly so people will be remembering them forever and potentially into the next 50 years from now.  The sign of a real good song is that it becomes timeless and leaves a lasting impression on people.

I hope, whatever event that you are putting on and want some Music to dance to, that these classic songs make it into your playlist.  If you book a wedding band through myself, I will be sure to include these in my set list – only if desired of course.  The Client is always right!  For now, excuse me as I go back to the world of 80’s music and continue to listen to some classic wedding songs for the rest of the night.  To the DeLorean I go!
